Transfer News Today: Chelsea Eye Argentina Defender As Stones Alternative

Going For Garay

After growing frustrated in their attempts to sign Everton’s John Stones, Chelsea have switched their attentions to Zenit St Petersburg and Argentina centre-back Ezequiel Garay according to reports.

Interesting. Yeah. Garay would certainly offer more experience, and is a well-respected defender in the game having previously played for Benfica and Real Madrid as well as nailing down a place in his national team.

Bye Bye Balotelli

Liverpool’s disastrous experiment with Mario Balotelli is over for the time being at least, with the Italian rejoining AC Milan on a season-long loan.

That went well. Hmm. Balotelli scored four goals in four different competitions for the Reds, but far from his madcap antics is was more a lack of quality which did for him in the end. Christian Benteke is certainly an upgrade.

Evans Above

West Brom are closing in on a deal for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, and will then allow Joleon Lescott to leave the club.

Seems a good upgrade. It does. Lescott just hasn’t really worked out at West Brom for whatever reason, and Evans is a solid defender who could do well for Tony Pulis.

Edin To Arsenal?

The Karim Benzema ‘chase’ is finally over, so Arsenal now have to be linked with another forward, and it’s Edinson Cavani’s name which is doing the rounds after the Gunners drew a blank against Liverpool on Monday night.

That won’t happen, will it? No, in short. Cavani seems pretty happy at Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsene Wenger is stubborn enough to rely on his current crop of forwards.

Tottenham are so desperate to offload Emmanuel Adebayor that they are ready to subsidise even more of his wages to make sure he joins West Ham on loan for the season.

Will it happen? It seems to be getting closer. Adebayor is in drastic need of a change of scenery, and Slaven Bilic might well end up getting the best out of him.
