Transfer News Today: Defender Angry At Huge Man United Price Tag

Evans Above

Jonny Evans is reportedly furious that Manchester United won’t drop their £12m valuation of him, with the fee preventing both Everton and West Brom from pursuing a deal for the Northern Irishman. Both clubs value him at £8m.

Will a compromise be reached? Hopefully. Evans is actually a better defender than many give him credit for, but he needs a move to gain first-team football and either interested party would be good for him.

Snubbed By Sergio

However, United could now opt to keep Evans after long-term centre-back target Sergio Ramos surprised no-one by signing a new deal with Real Madrid.

I’m shocked! Quite. Ramos always looked to be using United’s interest to help with his contract negotiations, and it is no surprise that the new Madrid captain is staying in the Spanish capital.

Otamendi On The Move

And in a Manchester United and centre-backs special, the Red Devils have been snubbed by Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi, who is instead closing in on a switch to rivals Manchester City. Eliaquim Mangala could go the other way on loan.

Interesting. Yeah. Mangala was poor last season, but showed signs of improvement early in this one. Otamendi is a top quality defender, though, and would be a solid addition.

Asier To Anfield?

In one of the summer’s longest running sagas, Liverpool are still being linked with a move for the Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi, and could now complete the deal after Real signed Inter Milan’s Mateo Kovacic.

Do they need him? Well Lucas Leiva looks like he’s off, so the Reds could do with another body in there. Illarramendi is a classy performer and would add depth to Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Saido To Spurs

Another saga could end this week, with Tottenham poised to snap up West Brom forward Saido Berahino – although their opening £15m offer may have to be improved.

Kane and Berahino upfront? Sounds good, doesn’t it? Berahino has certainly got something about him, and would give Spurs the extra pace in attack they sorely need.
