Defence is the problem area for Jurgen Klopp. He is currently putting his faith in the loveable but erratic figure of Kolo Toure and has even been forced to recall Tiago Ilori from an ill-fated loan spell at Aston Villa.

The latest man to be tipped for a moved to Anfield is Inter centre-half Andrea Ranocchia. At 27 he has a vast amount of experience and 20 Italy caps under his belt.

While he hasn’t exactly dazzled at the San Siro he has still been a part of a squad that has conceded just 11 goals in Serie A and sit top of the table. He would be available for just over £6m and would be a great value addition to Klopp’s options at the back.

Alan Pardew needs new options up top and his first aim is to gazump Manchester United to the signing of one of the most exciting and in-demand players outside the top-flight.

The forward would add some much needed pace and depth to the Eagles frontline and the chance of game time could persuade him to choose London over Manchester.
