Arsenal and Liverpool are in the race to sign Charlton teenage centre-back Joe Gomez for £7million.
Is he worth it? Well, the kind of figures being quoted are a lot for an 18-year-old but given that Borussia Dortmund have also sent scouts to look at Gomez, it’s easy to see why he could command such a fee.
Spurs want Salah
Tottenham are interested in bringing Mohamed Salah to White Hart Lane, though Chelsea would prefer to sell him abroad rather than strengthen a Premier League club and local rival.
Is there any other interest? Inter Milan are in the race, but Spurs reportedly lead the way with the offer of a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for £10million next summer. That would at least give Chelsea the power to prevent him facing them next season.
Take it or leave it
Manchester City are preparing a second and final bid of £40m for Liverpool’s wantaway winger Raheem Sterling.
Will Liverpool accept? They have valued Sterling at £50million and have little reason to let him go for £40million this early in the transfer window. Having said that, they may be tempted to cash in now and use that money to bring in a quality replacement. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also interested but are unwilling to pay more than £30million.
Manchester United have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Nicolas Otamendi’s agent as they look to complete a £25million deal.
Good move? Yes, because United’s defence needs serious strengthening - although this could just be agent talk. Having failed to land Mats Hummels, Otamendi represents a decent alternative, but Valencia have him tied into a contract with a £35million release clause.
Manchester United are closing in on the £20million transfer of Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
So does that mean they no longer want Lloris? Louis van Gaal has identified Cillessen as his number one choice to replace David de Gea and will only resurrect a move for Hugo Lloris if they are unable to land the Dutch international.
