Transfer News Today: Moyes to make Marchisio Man Utd’s midfield miracle worker?

Today we’re looking at a Blue who could become a Tiger, the solution to Man Utd’s midfield problem, a forward leaving Liverpool and a Saint who could be marching out

Tabloid speculation

Hull boss Steve Bruce is targeting Everton forward Nikica Jelavic after failing with moves for both Shane Long and Steven Fletcher.

Why it will happen: The Croatian has been on the outside looking in at Goodison for the majority of the season, and needs a move ahead of the World Cup.

Why it won’t happen: Jelavic won’t come cheap, and it remains to be seen whether Hull could afford the wages of a player who made an immediate impact in the Premier League upon his arrival two years ago.

Forum chatter

Manchester United boss David Moyes wants to boost the fortunes of his flagging side with a £20m move for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio.

Why it will happen: A struggling United are crying out for a midfielder of the Italian’s standard, and if ever they need to invest in their squad it is now.

Why it won’t happen: We’ve been here before with the Old Trafford outfit, whilst why would Marchisio want to leave his boyhood club who are top of Serie A for Moyes’ men?

Failing to settle

Liverpool’s Iago Aspas could join Valencia on loan just six months after signing for the Reds from Celta Vigo.

Why it will happen: Daniel Sturridge is likely to return from injury at the weekend, and that will only limit Aspas’ chances of some playing time even further. A temporary move back to Spain could benefit him.

Why it won’t happen: The forward scored his first Reds goal in the FA Cup last week, and Brendan Rodgers doesn’t have the biggest of squads at his disposal as it is, so why reduce the numbers?

Big money flop

Southampton’s record signing Dani Osvaldo could be set for a move back to Italy after joining from Roma in the summer, with Inter Milan keen on the 12-times capped frontman.

Why it will happen: Osvaldo has only shone in patches for the Saints, with the form of Jay Rodriguez forcing him to the sidelines more often than he’d have expected.

Why it won’t happen: Mauricio Pochettino won’t want to cut his losses just yet, and if Rickie Lambert were to leave St Mary’s then he’ll be counting on the Italian.
