It wouldn’t be a day of the year without Tottenham being linked with a myriad of different strikers. Today they are rumoured to be ready to make a move for Alvaro Negredo, or depending on who you believe, Leandro Damiao. The latter has seemingly been linked with a move to Spurs since he was six-years old.
Signing footballers is Harry Redknapp’s hobby, but he seems to have a limited frame of reference and very often tries to buy players he’s worked with before. Today he is rumoured to be ready to sign Peter Crouch (seen above having his hair cut by a veteran barber). If the move comes off, it would be the fifth time that Crouch has played under Redknapp.
It looks as if Redknapp is looking to shape QPR into a team that are good at set-pieces, because as well as Crouch, he has also reputedly made a enquiry over the services of the 6ft 4”, chiseled-out-of-granite, Christopher Samba. The Anzhi Makhachkala centre-back was a success in the Premier League with Blackburn, before making a move to Russia and could well be tempted back to England.
Liverpool have agreed an £8.5m deal to buy Inter Milan’s Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho. A medical is all that is between Coutinho and the joys of watching Stewart Downing in training every morning.
Signed, sealed, delivered
In perhaps the most shocking deal of the entire transfer window, Aston Villa-misfit Alan Hutton has joined Real Mallorca on loan until the end of the season. Quite how he will handle the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is anyone’s guess, as are Mallorca’s motivations for signing him. He is an international, but Hutton is far more ‘mutton’ than ‘Lahm’.
