Polish teenager Krystian Bielik has reportedly travelled to London to seal a £1.6m transfer to Arsenal, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger identifying the 16-year-old Legia Warsaw midfielder dubbed ‘the next Patrick Vieira’ as a star of the future.
More of the same for Arsenal then? Absolutely. The ‘next Vieira’ is all well and good, and hopefully Bielik has a career that matches the highs of the Frenchman’s, but a couple of players who could step straight into the first-team should surely be Wenger’s priority.
Arsenal are 2.42 to win at Anfield on Sunday
Out Of Their League?
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman wants to solve his side’s current slump by signing compatriot Wesley Sneijder from Galatasaray.
That would be brilliant! Yes, go on Wes. You know it makes sense. The 30-year-old has long been a target for the Premier League and a switch to the Saints would be a huge boost for Koeman’s flagging side. Wages and the question of whether or not he’s actually heard of Southampton are the stumbling blocks, though…
After recent defeats Southampton are now 7.00 to finish in the top four
In The Money
Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is close to putting pen to paper on a new £200,000 a week contract which would make him the club’s highest-paid player.
Is he worth it? He is. The Belgian is the standout performer in Jose Mourinho’s winning machine, and at just 23 he only looks like getting better and better. Sign him up.
Hazard is 6.10 to score first at Stoke on Monday night
QPR boss Harry Redknapp has decided not to bother scouting new forwards and will instead target Peter Crouch, 33, and the 32-year-old Jermain Defoe – who have both played for him at three different clubs – in the January transfer window.
He’s just not trying any more is he? Well Crouch is having a good season at Stoke to be fair, but given that there is a whole world of other, younger, forwards out there it would be nice to see Redknapp even consider other options.
QPR are 2.10 to go down
Saving The Season
Argentina World Cup goalkeeper Sergio Romero is the latest goalkeeper to be linked with a move to Liverpool, with the Reds said to be negotiating with the Sampdoria stopper’s agent Mino Raiola, who also represents Mario Balotelli.
Better than Mignolet and Jones? Well… yes. Romero apparently interested Manchester United in the summer, but the move at Anfield is described as ‘a distinct possibility’ in some reports.
Liverpool are 4.75 to win the Capital One Cup after reaching the last four
