Frustrated Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is reportedly beginning to accept that the club won’t offer him a new deal in the summer, and he could be set to return to his native north-east with Newcastle United.

The 34-year-old has never played for his boyhood club after joining West Ham’s academy as a teenager, but with no progress made on a new Old Trafford contract he will be allowed to move on in the summer, and hopes to join Steve McClaren’s side if they avoid relegation.
