Today we examine whether Chelsea will let Juan Mata leave on loan, a possible striker signing for Arsenal, Manchester United's search for a playmaker and a winger that wants to join Spurs.
Juan Mata could be allowed to leave Chelsea on loan this January, with Juventus and Atletico Madrid keen to sign him.
Why it will happen: Mata has fallen out of favour at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho and needs to play regular football in order to be selected for Spain’s World Cup squad.
Why it won’t happen: Chelsea will be hoping to strengthen their squad in January, not weaken it. With the pressures intensifying in the second-half of the season, Mata could still have a key role to play as Chelsea battle for multiple honours.
Arsenal will sign the Romanian striker Ciprian Marica from Getafe in January.
Why it will happen: Arsenal were linked with a move for Marica during the summer and still need another striker in their squad.
Why it won’t happen: If Arsenal didn’t think it was worth signing Marica during the summer when he was available on a free transfer, then why would they want to sign him now, when it involves them buying the striker from Getafe?
Tabloid Speculation II
David Moyes’ attempt to buy a creative central midfielder will see him make a move for Valencia’s Ever Banega in January. The Argentine has a £50m release clause in his contract.
Why it will happen: Moyes is a long-term admirer of Banega, having tried to sign him at Everton.
Why it won’t happen: United won’t pay Banega’s huge buyout clause, leaving them having to negotiate a deal in the tricky January window.
Come and Get Me
The Sevilla winger Diego Perotti has claimed that he could sign for Tottenham in the January window.
Why it will happen: Spurs are struggling for goals and Perotti could be the man to supply the service that will get the best out of Roberto Soldado.
Why it won’t happen: The one area where Andre Villas-Boas already has more than enough options is on the flanks, where he can already choose between Andros Townsend, Aaron Lennon, Erik Lamela, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Nacer Chadli.
