Fiorentina – Parma
There would be no heroic comeback for Fiorentina in their Europa League semi-final against Sevilla. Instead the Viola were whistled by their own fans en route to a 2-0 second leg defeat. Vincenzo Montella argued that his team had punched above its weight by reaching the latter stages of that competition and the Coppa Italia, as well as nearly breaking into the top three. His critics will say that Fiorentina should have concentrated on one of those targets instead of spreading themselves so thin.
The question now is whether Fiorentina retain the motivation to finish the season strongly. Parma demonstrated that they do, despite their relegation, when they drew with Napoli last weekend.
Double chance: draw or away – 4.40
Napoli – Cesena
Defeat to Dnipro was damaging to Napoli’s pride but potentially also to their future. For several weeks now, fans and analysts had speculated that winning the Europa League might be the Partenopei’s simplest route back into the Champions League next season. Now, Rafa Benítez’s team must rally themselves for one last run at the top three.
That target remains achievable, not least because Napoli face Lazio on the final weekend. But no more slips can be afforded. Relegated Cesena ought to be easily beaten. Then again, many people had presumed the same about Parma last weekend.
Both teams to score – 2.12
