Cagliari – Sassuolo
Brace yourselves for another Serie A selfie. Cagliari full-back Danilo Avelar complained to the Unione Sarda this week that Francesco Totti had pinched his idea for celebrating a goal with a photo under the Curva, but said he would still take his own version if he were to score against Sassuolo.
As the Sardinians’ top penalty-taker, it is certainly a feasible scenario. But Sassuolo are stubborn opponents, a side who have lost just once in their last 13 league games. Claiming a share of the points might not be such a bad outcome for the hosts this time around.
Draw – 3.40
Lazio – Milan
Lazio will show off a new home kit on Saturday night – their eagle-themed shirts representing a throwback to the 1986-87 season, when they avoided relegation from Serie B despite a nine point deduction. They might just show off a new player as well. The club completed the signing of Brazilian centre-back Mauricio from Sporting on Wednesday, and he has already stated that he hopes to go straight into the starting line-up against Milan.
With Stefan De Vrij still out injured, it is at least a possibility. The Dutchman’s absence, allied with that of Felipe Anderson, means that this is also a good time for Milan to be facing Lazio, even if their own form since the start of the year has been disastrous. The Rossoneri won the reverse fixture 3-1 at the start of the season, and this will be an intriguing test of both teams’ progress. A similarly open game could be in order.
