Forum Chatter: Ganso to Arsenal
Today’s least likely to happen transfer is this Twitter fantasy, concerning Santos’ exciting attacker. Ganso’s agent has publicly announced that the 22-year-old will be staying in Brazil for at least another year. And besides, the buy-out clause set an the investment company who own the majority of his rights currently stands at £40million, which pretty much prices Arsene Wenger’s men out of the market.
Tabloid Speculation: Andy Carroll to AC Milan
Based solely on the fact that Silvio Berlusconi’s son was impressed with Carroll’s headed goal against Sweden in Euro 2012, this story is as unsubstantiated as it is random. No doubt, rumours will rumble on for a couple more days, but the bare facts are that Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to working with the striker, and will make Carroll a large part of his tactical strategy at Anfield this coming season.
Contact Made: Esteban Granero to Liverpool
The Reds have made enquiries about Real Madrid’s ball-playing midfielder, but their valuation has been deemed too low at this stage. However, the 25-year-old Spaniard would favour a move away from the Bernabeu, where his first team opportunities are limited, and playing alongside the likes of Suarez and Gerrard is an appealing proposition.
Bid tabled: Andre Schurrle to Chelsea
Chelsea have had a bid for the 21-year-old German international rejected by Bayer Leverkusen. The Blues tabled an offer in excess of €20million, but that has not been enough to prise the young attacker away. Schurrle has scored seven goals in 16 appearances for the national side and impressed in the Euro 2012 quarter-final against Greece. Chelsea may well revise their budget and launch an improved bid in the coming days.
Medical and Terms: Jan Vertonghen to Spurs
Belgian defender Vertonghen arrives at Tottenham’s training ground today to carry out a medical before signing a deal worth an estimated £7million. The classy Ajax defender was awarded Holland’s Footballer of the Year prize last term and can operate across a number of different positions. He’ll become manager Andre Villas-Boas’ second signing after the arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson last week.
