Schalke are lining up Tottenham’s Lewis Holtby as a replacement for Julian Draxler, who is closing in on a move to Arsenal - we will explain shortly!

Why it will happen: Holtby is known to Schalke having spent four years at the club before joining Spurs. They helped craft the the kind of player he is and so they know he'd fit into their ethos.

Tabloid speculation I

Juve midfielder Paul Pogba is unlikely to re-join Manchester United as long as Sir Alex Ferguson remains part of the club’s hierarchy, after harbouring misgivings over the way he was treated by the former boss at Old Trafford.

Why it will happen: David Moyes has gone to meet Juve officials about Pogba and a £20million approach has been tabled.

Why it won’t happen: But are Manchester United an appetising destination? They will quite possibly miss out on the Champions League, so would the move really appeal to Pogba?

Tabloid speculation II

Speculation is rife that Arsene Wenger will splash out on another German international playmaker – this time £37million for Schalke sensation Julian Draxler.

Why it will happen: There is a strong German contingent at the Emirates and that will attract Draxler to the club. Wenger has plans to convert Draxler into a striker, thus solving his lack of depth in that area.

Why it won’t happen: There are question marks over the 20-year-old's current fitness situation, with speculation that he could be out of match action until March.

In talks

Fulham have had an audacious £4million bid for West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison turned down, according to reports.

Why it will happen: Morrison has reportedly told Fulham that he wants to go there.

Why it won’t happen: West Ham have slapped a £10million price tag on Morrison’s head. Can West Ham afford to give relegation rivals Fulham one of their best players?
