Tabloid speculation

Harry Redknapp wants Netherlands World Cup star Ron Vlaar, 29, to join QPR this summer. Vlaar, who has been at Aston Villa since 2012, would cost QPR around £4million.

Why it will happen: Vlaar enjoyed a strong World Cup for the Netherlands and Redknapp is keen to partner him with new signing Rio Ferdinand.

Why it won’t happen: Vlaar is a key member of the Villa team and, if they sell him, it could lead to unrest among supporters.

In talks

Jan Vertonghen could leave Tottenham for Barcelona, with the Spanish giants stepping up their interest in the Belgian defender. Vertonghen, who signed for Spurs from Ajax in 2012, has grown frustrated at White Hart Lane after being played at left-back by successive managers. Barcelona are believed to be prepared to pay £20million for the centre-back.

Why it will happen: Who wouldn’t want to play for Barcelona? Vertonghen would be the perfect replacement for Carles Puyol, who left Barca at the end of last season.

Why it won’t happen: Mauricio Pochettino is keen to keep Vertonghen and Spurs have offered him improved contract terms.

Right-back Mathieu Debuchy will be unveiled as an Arsenal player imminently, with the final details of his contract being agreed before the deal is announced. Debuchy, who spent last season at Newcastle after joining from Lille, will cost Arsenal around £10million.
