Transfer News Today: Blow for City & Chelsea as Cavani pushes for Real move

Forum chatter

Manchester City have received a £10million bid for Carlos Tevez from Juventus, according to speculation in the forums.

City are reportedly open to offers for the Argentine, who has been consistently linked with a move away from the Eithad. Juventus are yet to hear whether their bid has been successful.

Tabloid speculation

Manchester United have been joined in the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara by rivals Manchester City. New City boss Manuel Pelligrini is looking to freshen up the City midfield and is looking at Alcantara as an option.

But United boss David Moyes has been tracking Alcantara for several years and United remain favourites to land the 22-year-old, who inspired Spain’s under-21s to a 4-2 victory over Italy in the final of the European Under-21 Championships (see video above).

The Daily Bale

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, who is being courted by Paris Saint-Germain, is ready to commit his future to Spurs – if he’s assured Gareth Bale will not be allowed to leave White Hart Lane.

Bale is being chased by Real Madrid, with PSG also interested in the winger, but Tottenham are resisting their advances, despite some placing a world record transfer fee on the Welshman’s head.

Come and get me

Edinson Cavani has eyes only for Real Madrid, after the Uruguayan described Los Blancos as “a beautiful team”.

The Napoli star has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester City and Chelsea both interested, but it appears Real are ready to splash £55million on the striker.

Cavani, who scored 29 goals in 34 appearances for Napoli last season, said: "I am very calm. Real Madrid are a beautiful team, every player dreams of playing there when he is a child.

"Those are things that they are talking from behind, as it will soon be seen. But officially nobody has talked with me."

In talks

Liverpool continue to fill the ‘In talks’ section of this column with the news that they are closing in on Sevilla winger Luis Alberto.

Alberto, 20, can operate wide or behind the striker and Brendan Rodgers, who has put in a £6million bid, is confident a deal will be struck this week.

Liverpool expect to have concluded the signings of Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas this week, and are also interested in the 20-year-old London-born Sporting Lisbon central defender Tiago Ilor.

The Reds are close to landing Armenia national team captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan and have already captured Kolo Toure on a free from Manchester City.
