Transfer News Today: City to Offload Hart in Hope To Sign Begovic

Morata to Spurs, Begovic to City, Diego flirts with Arsenal and Berahino in talks with West Brom...

Forum chatter

Tottenham are hoping to secure the services of Madrid striker Alvaro Morata on loan in the hope of ending their goal drought. Spurs have scored only nine league goals all season and the highly-rated 21-year-old could take some of the pressure off fellow Spaniard Roberto Soldado.

Why it will happen: Having spent so much money in the summer, Spurs will like the idea of a loan deal for a striker. Morata was linked with Spurs when they sold Gareth Bale to Madrid.

Why it won’t happen: Morata has started the season well at Madrid and will fancy his chances of breaking into the first XI. Madrid may also want to monitor his progress on loan at a La Liga club.

Tabloid speculation

Manuel Pellegrini will offer Stoke City Joe Hart plus cash in the hope of luring Asmir Begovic away from the Britannia Stadium in January.

Why it will happen: Begovic has proven himself to be a very reliable Premier League goalkeeper and Pellegrini can be confident that he’d provide some stability between the sticks.

Why it won’t happen: Hart is still under contract at City. A proud man, Hart would rather fight for his place at the Etihad than downgrade to Stoke.

Come and get me

Wolfsburg’s Brazilian playmaker Diego has issued a plea to Arsenal to sign him, with Southampton also linked to the 28-year-old. “I know there is interest from Premier League clubs. I have heard Arsenal is one of them,” Diego said. “It would be the ideal destination for me because their style suits my characteristics perfectly.”

Why it will happen: Diego would indeed suit the Premier League and Arsenal’s style. He would be available at a cheap price.

Why it won’t happen: Arsenal are already overloaded in that position. Do they need Diego as much as he needs them? Southampton seems like a more realistic option.

In talks

Saido Berahino is closing in on a new deal at West Brom. The highly-rated England under-21 star has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, but Baggies boss Steve Clarke expects him to sign soon. “He just has to put pen to paper – it’s a good deal,” said Clarke.

Why it will happen: Berahino has developed well at the Hawthorns and will want to continue to make good progress.

Why it won’t happen: Will his head be turned by offers elsewhere?
