Transfer News Today: City Target Higuain

Mere forum chatter:

It looks as if Spurs have missed out on France keeper Hugo Lloris and will now approach Inter Milan's Julio Cesar. However, it's unlikely the Brazilian international will relish a move to London to compete with countryman Heurilhilo Gomes and veteran American Brad Friedel.

Taboid speculation:

Fed up of competing in a three-way tug of war for Robin Van Persie, Manchester City are instead turnign their attentions to Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentina hitman was also been tracked by Spurs and Chelsea, and is said to be available for around £35million.

Contact made:

Spurs have enquired as to the services of Liverpool's teenage prodigy Raheem Sterling. The winger, Liverpool's second-youngest ever first team player, was due to go out on loan to QPR, but could be swayed by Andre Villas-Boas' £7.5million advances.

Bid tabled:

Stoke City have laid down a £2million bid for Woles winger Michael Kightly. The former non-league footballer, who rose through the divisions to star at Molyneux, is keen to stay in the Premier League and could move to the Britannia in the coming days from the relegated outfit.

Medical and terms:

French international right-back Mathieu Debuchy has arrived in the North East and will complete his move to Newcastle United in the next day or two. The 27-year-old starred for Les Blues during Euro 2012 and is set to join the Magpies for a £6million fee.

Signed, sealed, delivered:

James Collins has penned a deal to rejoin West Ham from Aston Villa. The 28-year-old Welsh international defender has been recaptured by Sam Allardyce for £2.5million, three years after moving in the opposite direction.
