Transfer News Today: Man United Close On Magic Mata For Cool £37m

Berba back to Spurs, Muntari to Hull, United want Mata and Cabella agrees Newcastle move, plus other rumours...

Forum chatter

Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy is keen to bring Dimitar Berbatov back to White Hart Lane on a short term deal.

Why it will happen: Tottenham need reinforcements in attack given the sale of Jermain Defoe to Toronto FC, while Berbatov, who scored 46 goals in 102 games for Spurs, is available for a cut-price £2million.

Why it won’t happen: Manager Tim Sherwood isn’t keen on signing Berbatov, whose arrival could unsettle in-form Emmanuel Adebayor. Meanwhile, with the Bulgarian star now 32, signing the former hero could be seen as a backwards step.

Transfer speculation I

Hull are set to bring in AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari for around £4million.

Why it will happen: The Ghanaian was left on the bench in Clarence Seedorf’s first game in charge of Milan, and will be eager to keep his World Cup hopes alive with regular football.

Why it won’t happen: Milan to Hull is a bit of a drop, isn’t it?

Transfer speculation II

Manchester United are preparing to offer Chelsea a club record £37million for Juan Mata.

Why it will happen: Mata isn’t playing at Chelsea and United are desperate to make a big signing to prove they are still among the Premier League’s big hitters.

Why it won’t happen: Do Chelsea want to sell a key player to a Premier League rival? Even for £37million, it’s a deal that could come back to haunt them.
