Transfer News Today: PSG hijack Chelsea's move for Cavani

Forum chatter

Chelsea are apparently preparing a £10million bid for Norwich keeper John Ruddy. In what would be a strange move even by Chelsea’s wacky standards, Jose Mourinho wants more back up for Petr Cech, with Chelsea’s other keeper, Thibaut Courtois, about to start another season on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Tabloid speculation

Paris Saint-Germain look set to pip Chelsea to the signing of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani by triggering the Uruguayan’s £53million release clause. Chelsea seemed to have done enough to get the forward by offering £50million this week, an offer that was being considered by the Italian club, but it seems PSG are now the favourites to get their man. Chelsea may now turn their attentions to Wayne Rooney and Robert Lewandowski.

The Daily Bale

Gareth Bale’s agent has confirmed there has been no offer from Real Madrid for his player.

Jonathan Barnett said Bale has been on holiday and will return to training with Tottenham as planned next week.

“Bale has not said no, nor yes. There’s no offer from Madrid. They have to talk between themselves and we will see what happens,” said Barnett. “He was at Malaga airport [on Tuesday], he’s been in Marbella on holiday. He comes back to Tottenham for pre-season training next week.”

Come and get me

Manchester City defender Maicon could be offered a way out of the club by Italian side Roma. Maicon, 31, has failed to establish himself at the Etihad and Roma director of football Walter Sabatini is keen to bring the former Inter Milan man back to Italy.

In talks

Swansea and Liverpool have agreed a fee for midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. The fee, believed to be around £6million, eclipses the £5million that Crystal Palace had offered and Shelvey is now free to discuss terms with the Swans.
