World Cup Group A Betting

Brazil

Odds: 4.00

Qualifying form: As hosts, Brazil have put their feet up and watched the rest of the world battle it out. Their most recent competitive action was in the Confederations Cup in summer 2013, and they were in irresistible form.

Key man: Neymar

During the Confederations Cup he showed glimpses of what Brazil can expect of him at the World Cup. He is the poster boy for the tournament and is capable of guiding Brazil all the way to the title.

Potential wildcard: David Luiz

Can be brilliant, can be awful. But when he's on his game, the 'Playstation defender' can be inspirational. His partnership at the back with Thiago Silva will be vital to Brazil's plight.

If they were a musical act they’d be…

Take That - They achieved loads of hits in the past, but having reinvented themsleves they're now better than ever.

Croatia

Odds: 75.00

Qualifying form: Did it the hard way. Sneaked past Iceland in the play-offs after struggling into second place behind Belgium and ahead of Serbia.

Previous best: Semi-finals, 1998

Key man: Luka Modric – Buzzes around the pitch, supplying key passes and popping up the occasional goal. Adds a touch of quality to Croatia’s play.

Wildcard: Mario Mandzukic – With only 14 goals in 47 games, the Bayern Munich striker is far from prolific for his country. But only three players scored more than him in Group A qualifying – can he take that form to Brazil?

If they were a musical act they’d be…

The Rolling Stones - Nowhere near as good as they used to be, but still capable of putting on a good show.

Mexico

Odds: 100.00

Qualifying form: Sketchy. Drew half of their games and lost a crucial match against the USA. Finished fourth and went through courtesy of a play-off win against New Zealand.

Previous best: Quarter finals in 1970 and 1986.

Key man: Javier Hernandez - Has struggled to hold down a regular place at United but is always capable of scoring. Mexico's chief goal threat.

Wildcard: Giovani dos Santos - It's difficult to know what you'll get with Dos Santos, but he is a fine player when he's on his game.

If they were a musical act they’d be…

Morrissey - Their vocal and devoted fanbase don't care that they're becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Cameroon

Odds: 200.00

Qualifying form: Solid. Topped their group and came through a play-off against Tunisia.

Previous best: Quarter finals in 1990 (Remember Roger Milla dancing at the corner flag...)

Key man: Samuel Eto'o - The greatest ever Cameroonian player is now 32, and will be expected to deliver in what'll almost certainly be his last World Cup.

Potential wildcard: Alex Song - A forgotten man, particularly at Barcelona. He'll be looking to prove himself in Brazil.

If they were a musical act they’d be…

Youssou N'Dour - No longer the biggest thing to come out of Africa.
