World number one Michael Van Gerwen is the hot favourite to claim his third successive televised tournament of the season at this weekend’s Unibet Masters.

With the Edinburgh tournament set to get underway this Saturday - and being shown live on ITV4 throughout - Unibet, the new title sponsor of the £160,000 showdown, has the Dutchman known as Mighty Mike as the 2/1 favourite.

Hot on the heels of the world champ in Unibet’s latest betting is the defending champion Phil ’The Power’ Taylor at 3/1 with the chasing pack following by a distance behind the sport’s Big Two. James Wade, Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis are considered the best of the rest with all three players at 12/1.

Unibet Masters: 2/1 Van Gerwen; 3/1 Taylor; 12/1 Wade, Anderson, Lewis; 20/1 Whitlock, Wright; 25/1 Chisnall, Thornton, Van Barneveld; 40/1 King; 50/1 Huybrechts, Pipe; 60/1 Hamlton, Dolan; 100/1 Newton.

Ed Nicholson, spokesman for Unibet, said: ”The Unibet Masters might be a showdown of the world’s top 16 players but when it comes down to the wire the tungsten tipped tipsters still believe it will be Mighty Mike or Phil ’The Power’ who will be lifting the trophy on Sunday night.”

Unibet Launches Unique 180 Challenge

Working closely with the PDC, Unibet is introducing a competition first in the world of darts with the special 180 Challenge, #Unibet180.

Designed with the passionate darts crowd in mind the Edinburgh faithful attending the Royal Hiighland Centre will be rewarded with prizes for every seventh 180 thrown by the players throughout the tournament.

Despite the added pressure of scoring a maximum it is a challenge the players themselves are embracing. World No. 1 Van Gerwen said: “It’s unique and also very pleasing that our fans are rewarded for the 180s we throw.”

According to Taylor “the 180 Challenge motivates us players even more to get the best out of ourselves.”

How #Unibet180 Works

Like Van Gerwen and Taylor, all the darts players that will appear during the Unibet Masters will give their best to score as many 180s as possible. A giant construction on the side of the stage will keep track on the number of maximums that have been thrown at the Royal Highland Centre with one of the walk-on-girls adding one of the Unibet logo balls for every 180 scored. Once the seventh 180 has been thrown, the logo is completed and the fans can expect unique prizes during the next break in play.

Unibet have made a market on the total number of 180s to be thrown during the tournament and there has been a huge move for 97 or more, which now stands at 2/5 whilst 96 or less is a 19/10 chance.

Speaking of the bookie’s 180 Challenge Unibet’s Ed Nicholson said: “Few sports enjoy the special relationship that exists between the world’s elite darts players and their amazing fans and Unibet’s exciting 180 challenge is going to further that unique connection between the stage and the seats – which is just what Unibet is all about.”

Unibet Masters Money-Back: Big Two Betting Offer

The sponsor is also offering an exclusive Money-Back Special to punters that will leave other bookies in the darts madhouse. Place a £20 bet on either Phil Taylor or Michael van Gerwen to win the Unibet Masters and Unibet will refund losing bets if your player is defeated in the final.
