Saturday's Racing: Shergar Cup Takes Centre Stage At Ascot

There are no less than seven race meetings this Saturday with Haydock and Ascot taking centre stage.

Haydock’s seven race card includes the listed Dick Hern Fillies Stakes at 3.25pm and the Group Three Rose of Lancaster Stakes at 2.55pm.

Meanwhile Ascot hold their annual Shergar Cup where jockeys from around the World participate in the only team event of its kind.

Hillstar and True Story are vying for favouritism in the Rose of Lancaster at 2.55pm, while Ollie Stevens’ Lightening Thunder will go off a very short favourite in the Dick Hern Fillies Stakes at 3.25pm having contested three consecutive Group Ones – and she’s finished second in both the English and Irish 1000 Guineas.

Over at Ascot, S’manga Khumalo will be a new name for punters to conjure with!

Known as ‘Bling’ in South Africa, he teams up with Craig Williams (Australia)  and Yuichi Fukunaga (Japan) to represent the Rest of the World.

The Girls team is headed by Hayley Turner along with Emma-Jayne Wilson (Canada) and Steffi Hofer (Germany), while Europe is captained by Franki Dettori who is joined by Olivier Peslier (France) and Adrie de Vries (Dutch). Finally the Great Britain & Ireland team is comprised of Tom Queally, Jimmy Fortune and Richard Hughes.

Each jockey rides in five of the six races, with points awarded for finishing in the first five (15,10,7, 5, 3)
