Windsor Races Betting: Tom Lee's Monday Night Tips

The once a year pleasure which is Royal Ascot may disappearing in the rear view mirror, but Berkshire's best and brightest Monday night is a weekly staple diet at Windsor throughout the majority of the Flat season, and as ever they stage a solid six race card this evening...

Sponsored by Unibet, it's a fixture that kicks off at 6.40pm with a pair of maidens, the second of which over an extended mile features a first runner of the year on turf for much-loved Newmarket trainer Sir Mark Prescott, in the form of Montjeu gelding Mountain Kingdom.

He looks like he might be one for future targets once he's got a bit of experience under his belt, but in the Class 4 mile handicap that follows (7.40pm) Clive Cox's runner Voyageofdiscovery looks very much like one for the here and now, and could well be the solution to a seven runner heat.

Cox had a winner at Goodwood on Thursday, and was unlucky not to make it two in three days when Voyageofdiscovery narrowly failed to strike on his handicap debut off tonight's mark of 76 at Haydock Park on Saturday.

There is the small risk that a run little over 48 hours ago may have taken the edge off him, but Cox woudn't let him line up here unless he was 100% confident he's in tip-top shape, and anyone who backed him on Saturday will know very well he was begging for a few more strides to finish the job after denied a run in the latter stages.

When he did finally see daylight he flew at the eventual winner Lesha, only failing by half a length in the hands of Jon Fahy, suggesting his current handicap mark of 76 is very one with winning potential.

Apprentice Ryan Tate takes over in the saddle tonight and brings a three pound claim to the table, and though the likes of Ralph Beckett's Ravenous and Charlie Appleby's Dullingham will have their fans - both have to give weight to the selection, and this looks a great opportunity for Voyageofdiscovery (who also showed up very well when runner up in two maidens) to atone for the frustration of Saturday and post a first career win on his fifth outing.

Unibet will lay you the top price around at 7/4

An hour later Lambourn trainer Brendan Powell looks to have found the perfect opening for Stockhill Diva to make it three wins from four runs in the 1m 2f Download The Unibet Pro App Fillies' Handicap at 8.40pm.

Powell has hit the bullseye with two of his last six runners, and with his team in form will surely be extremely hopeful of adding another strike while the iron is hot, having scanned the fixtures to find a 0-70 over this trip for a filly who has crept up to mark of 69 after wins at Leicester and Bath.

Arguably her most potent rival on paper at the 48-hour declaration stage is a non-runner after John Bridger was forced to withdraw Choral Festival due to a pricked foot - spot the blacksmith keeping a low profile!

With her unable to line up Stockhill Diva benefits from what look to be her optimum conditions tonight, a mile and a quarter on ground given as Good to Firm (Good in places) by Clerk of the Course Jeff Green.

The opposition won't have Powell sweating too much - second favourite If I Were A Boy is a former course and distance winner off a five pounds higher mark than this evening's perch but struggles to win - and to add further encouragement Kieren Fallon is booked to ride.

Good luck!
