It is game two of the NBA’s Western Conference Final Series on Tuesday night and the Memphis Grizzlies are looking to bounce back into contention.
But after their 105-83 demolition job in Sunday’s opener, the San Antonio Spurs have been installed as 1.35 favourites to go through from this series and onward to the NBA Finals, with Memphis underdogs at 3.10.
Not so fast. It is way too soon to condemn the Grizzlies to a tame exit from these NBA Playoffs, particularly if Zach Randolph can find his mojo and deliver the kind of performance at both ends of the floor that has taken the franchise to their best-ever campaign.
Z-Bo was held to just two points in game one, shooting 1/8 in an atypical showing. It allowed the Spurs to get off to yet another quick start and pull away without the kind of defensive pressure we’ve come to expect from Memphis.
But the Grizz have repeatedly shown an ability to adjust and improve. When they were in a first round hole against the Clippers, they switched up and moved on. It’s simply inconceivable that San Antonio will be allowed to shoot 53 percent second time out.
That could bring the total points below the line of 181.5, available at 1.91. Memphis are 2.88 for the win but on the road, they’re still good value at 1.91 on a handicap of +5.5.
As for Randolph, he’s available at 1.85 to score over 16 points or at the same odds to grab over 10 rebounds. But have a look at Mike Conley to dish out over seven assists at 1.85 in a bid to prime his All-Star colleague.
Best bet: Zach Randolph to score over 16 points in San Antonio-Memphis at 1.85
