There’s a lot to like about the Sacramento Kings, much more than there has been for years. And despite a hitch with consecutive losses, things are looking up in Cow Town once again.
It might not be enough to see them come out on top on their trip to the Memphis Grizzlies tonight with the Kings underdogs at 3.25.
In back to back reverses at Oklahoma City and Dallas, Sacto’s scoring average was 95.5, well below their seasonal mark of 103.0, a trait which looks likely to continue against a Memphis team giving up a league-low 89.4 points per night during their impressive 7-1 start.
But the Kings are thriving amid a horrendous early schedule which gives them 10 out of 15 games in November on the road.
The overpaid Rudy Gay is justifying his mega-salary with 22.8 points per night. DeMarcus Cousins has returned from Team USA duty playing like an All Star by notching 22.1 plus 11.1 rebounds, in just 30.4 minutes per.
Those are MVP numbers, giving his side the kind of totem they’ve not had since Chris Webber led them into the championship picture a decade ago. And they’re also great fun to watch.
Memphis isn’t perfect, even if they are 3-0 at home, and over their last three games they’ve only ground out very narrow wins over the woeful Lakers and middling Thunder, while losing by one to a still-average Bucks.
Despite their average of 94.8, they have shown signs of putting up numbers against defensively-challenged opponents. So don’t be shy about going over the total points line of 193.5, available at 2.16.
Best bet: Back Sacramento at +3.5 at 2.55 on the handicap against Memphis
