History was made at the Unibet Open this weekend, quite literally.
London-born historian and high stakes cash player Pratik Ghatge won his first major title. He took home £85,050 (€105,425) and the coveted Unibet Open trophy.
“I ran pretty good from the get-go,” he said after scooping the top prize. “I got a lot of hands, and I picked up a lot of chips.”
The turning point in his tournament came on Day 2 when he won a big hand against his friend and fellow pro Chaz Chattha.
“I’m really happy with myself and the patience I’ve shown,” he added.
Ghatge admitted it felt good to win a tournament on his home turf that had featured so many international players. This is his biggest live win to date, and he plans to spend “at least half” of the prize money on a trip to Las Vegas later this year.
This year's Unibet Open Aspers Casino Westfield. attracted 315 players including some of poker's biggest names and generated a prize pool of £378,000
