ATP Rotterdam Betting: Del Potro to suffer slow start against unpredictable Monfils

Monday's double was unfortunately let down by Santiago Giraldo's failure to defeat the out of form Pablo Andujar in Sao Paulo.

Nikolay Davydenko comfortably took care of Florian Mayer in Rotterdam, but the damage had been done by Giraldo's defeat.

Moving onwards, the match of the day in Rotterdam is the flamboyant Frenchman Gael Monfils against last year's finalist Juan Martin Del Potro, in what ammounts to a pretty tough first-round draw for both men.

Del Potro should win this, but I'm not sure he should be a 1.22 shot against a man capable of pretty much anything - great or horrific depending on his mood.

Delpo tends to be a slow starter, as is highlighted by dropping sets in his first-round matches on indoor hard here last year to Michael Llodra, then in Marseille to Davydenko and again to Daniel Brands in Vienna.

He also lost to David Ferrer first up in London, which means that in six indoor events last year, Del Porto won in straight sets in his opening match just twice - and both of those were against Alejandro Falla.

The Tower of Tandil hasn't played since his shock defeat to Jeremy Chardy in Melbourne, which encourages me to believe that he might be a touch rusty tonight and Monfils will enjoy the role of underdog on the big stage of a night match.

Lamonf has had most of his best results indoors and although he's ranked outside the top-100 at the moment he'll surely work his way back up towards the top-30 relatively quickly, but draws like this one won't help his cause.

The conditions, as expected, are pretty slow in Rotterdam again this year and although both players have the power to hit through most surfaces it should help Monfils's defensive game.

Surprisingly, this will be the first ever meeting between the two on the tour and although I expect Delpo to come through, I'm not convinced that it will be as comfortable as 1.22 suggests and my bet will be to back over the 21.5 total games at around 1.80.

Best Bet: Back over 21.5 games in Del Potro v Monfils at 1.80
