It was another good night of men’s tennis betting in Melbourne on Wednesday, as my bet of the day Jeremy Chardy was an odds-against winner.
The Frenchman found his range to take down Marcel Granollers in style in four sets and he moves through to take on the impressive Juan Martin Del Potro.
Delpo, Andy Murray and Roger Federer were all comfortable winners on the night in incredibly hot conditions and they’ll be glad to escape with quick victories, unlike poor Blaz Kavcic, who left court on a stretcher and was put on a drip after his marathon in the midday sun.
Speaking of marathons there, is one match in the men’s draw tonight that has the look of a long, drawn out affair written all over it and that is Sam Querrey vs Stan Wawrinka.
Stan is always a good bet to go long at a Slam and on eight occasions last season he went 41 games or longer in Grand Slam play.
This pair also have a bit of a history of long matches, as their five set clash in New York in their most recent meeting in 2010 shows.
Prior to that their only other meeting went to a final set tie breaker in best of three play at Indian Wells.
Both players benefited from retirements by their opponents in the previous round here in Melbourne and I’m sure neither player is particularly relishing this one. The fact that it’s scheduled for the afternoon may not help either, but it will probably be well into the evening by the time they finish.
I would give the edge to Wawrinka in this one based on Querrey’s poor record in Melbourne but 1.60 is a touch low, so I prefer the 1.72 about this one going past the 41.5 total games mark.
Best Bet: Back over 41.5 games in Querrey vs Wawrinka at 1.72
