US Open Betting: Dominguez Lino to stretch limp Robson

The US Open begins today in New York and there is the usual packed schedule of matches to start us off on Monday.

On the women’s side today there are 32 matches to consider, which is rather a lot. With six televised courts, ’ll focus on matches with live pictures today.

Laura Robson vs Lourdes Dominguez Lino

This is probably not a first round match-up that Laura would have chosen on her comeback from a wrist injury, having lost to the Spaniard on both previous occasions that they’ve played. Wrist injuries are notoriously difficult to get over and Laura hasn’t played a match since being thrashed by Petra Kvitova a month ago in Carlsbad. Dominguez Lino is tricky for Robson because she gets a lot of balls back in play and waits for Robson to start spraying the ball around. This is a real banana skin for the Brit and I like the Spaniard +1.5 sets on the handicap at 1.70 here.

Lauren Davis vs Carla Suarez Navarro

For me the price of around 3.20 about the American here is too big against Suarez Navarro, who is not a natural hard courter and has a very average record here in New York. The diminutive Davis has had some good results lately, beating Klara Zakopalova and Sveta Kuznetsova on hard courts and this is within her range if she performs well in front of her home crowd. The Spaniard is not one to trust at short prices on hard courts in my opinion and the +4.5 games on Davis on the handicap looks good here at 1.78.

Paula Ormaechea vs Kimiko Date-Krumm

Finally for today, I have to take a chance on Ormaechea here against Date-Krumm, who’s been struggling badly with an Achilles problem of late and who has a poor recent record in New York. The Japanese veteran, who will turn 43 just after the end of this tournament is surely on her last legs and she has stated that it is a big risk even playing here this week, such is the situation with her injury. Ormaechea hasn’t had fabulous results in the last few weeks, but neither has Date-Krumm and the 2.28 looks well worth risking here, with Kimiko quite likely not to finish the match.
