Women's Tennis Betting: Babos to avenge Niculescu loss

The weather put paid to much of the action at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston on Thursday, but Stefanie Voegele did indeed take down Julia Goerges. Over in Monterrey my bet of Lauren Davis to beat Coco Vandeweghe was a straight sets winner, while there were tough battles for number one seed Angelique Kerber and number three seed Maria Kirilenko.

There aren’t many new WTA matches to choose from today in Charleston, with Jelena Jankovic vs Eugenie Bouchard and Caro Wozniacki vs Voegele the two quarter-finals on offer. Bouchard has a chance against Jankovic, but there may be more potential for value in Mexico, where all four quarter-finals are scheduled for today. There’s also more chance of play, as rain is forecast for Charleston again on Friday.

It’s worth sticking with Davis to at least grab a set against the inconsistent Russian Nastia Pavlyuchenkova at a price of around 1.83. A-Pavs has lost her last six straight against top-100 ranked opposition and she’s been pretty poor since reaching the final of Brisbane in the very first week of the season. She’s enjoyed a couple of bloodless wins against mediocre opposition here in Monterrey so far and Davis will fancy this.

Another underdog in with a shout tonight is Timea Babos, who clearly loves playing in Monterrey, where she won the title 12 months ago. She’s carried that on this year by taking care of Ana Ivanovic already. Niculescu is difficult to play against and comfortably defeated Babos a few weeks ago in Florianopolis, but the Hungarian plays well above herself at this venue and with a start of 4.5 games on the handicap she has a chance to reverse that result.

Best bets
Back Davis +1.5 sets to beat Pavlyuchenkova at 1.83
Back Babos +4.5 games to beat Niculescu at 1.87
