It was a very profitable day of WTA betting in Stanford on Friday night as all three of my best bets proved successful thanks to Sorana Cirstea, Dominika Cibulkova and Jamie Hampton.
We reach the semi-final stage at the Bank of the West Classic tonight. The first match on the schedule in California tonight is Cibulkova taking on Cirstea at 11pm UK time and this one has the look of a real toss-up about it to me.
Cirstea seems to have a good attitude at the moment, which is not something that I’ve ever written about the Romanian before. It appears that the hard yards she put into her training recently have paid off and she has a chance here as slight underdog against Domi. But it’s not a match that offers much in the way of value to me.
I much prefer sticking with Hampton in the match between the American and Agnieszka Radwanska, who has battled her way through to the last four despite yet more struggles with fitness. The Pole encountered an issue with a pulled muscle in last night’s narrow win over Varvara Lepchenko and no doubt she will take to the court covered in protective tape tonight once more.
Even without this latest injury I would have sided with Hampton here in these quick conditions, as she has every chance of hitting through Aga in a similar fashion to her win over the Pole on the grass in Eastbourne.
The fast courts at Stanford aren’t ideal for someone like Radwanska, whose grinding game suits slower hard courts. The firepower that Hampton possesses could easily be enough to fire her through to the final.
It’s all about consistency with Hampton and I said yesterday that she would improve for her first match, which was a bit of a struggle over Nicole Gibbs. She certainly did step it up last night against Vera Dushevina and a repeat of that form may well do the job here.
I’m tempted by the 2-0 Hampton win here at 5.40, but the 3.00 about the American to win the match will suffice.
Best bet: Back Hampton to beat Radwanska at 3.00
