Women's Tennis Betting: Hampton to win on hard court return

Thursday night’s schedule at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford features the remaining four second round matches.

Coco Vandeweghe had a poor night on serve last night, which cost her and me dear against Sorana Cirstea, with the California resident producing errors and double faults with regularity, leading to a 2-0 loss.

Thursday’s opening match at 8pm UK time sees Stefanie Voegele take on number three seed Dominika Cibulkova, who still has a long term Achilles issue that is made worse on hard courts. Domi hasn’t had a great season and I won’t be taking the 1.50 on her tonight in her first match on hard courts since Miami in the spring.

Jamie Hampton also plays her first match on hard for a while, but she faces a much lower calibre of opposition in Nicole Gibbs, who played plenty of college matches here at Stanford but struggles at tour level.

Gibbs is yet to take a set off a top 50 ranked player in her career and her opponent tonight has had a great year that’s seen her rise inside the top 30 in the world with some fine attacking tennis that suits these quick hard courts. The best bet here is to side with Hampton -1.5 sets at a price of around 1.65.

The match at around midnight UK time features Dani Hantuchova facing Urszula Radwanska and this one is a pretty even match, which is more or less as the layers have it. Slight preference for me is for Hantuchova, but not enough to bet.

If you fancy staying up until the early hours then Madison Keys should be too classy in conditions that suit her against Vera Dushevina. Keys’ big serving, big hitting game fits well to the surface here at Stanford and she’s a class above the Russian at the moment.

Dushevina has played her best tennis in some time to reach this stage of a tour level event for the first time since last year’s US Open, but her win over Marina Erakovic was aided by some poor play from the Kiwi.

Vera did beat Keys indoors in Memphis and she has the kind of game when it’s firing that also suits these conditions, so the odds on Keys are a little on the low side for me in this one at 1.25.

Best Bet: Back Hampton -1.5 sets to beat Gibbs at 1.65
