There was a most welcome winning day of tennis betting on Friday on the WTA Tour with my recommended double proving successful. Petra Kvitova drifted markedly in the betting from 1.52 to closer to 1.85 before the start of her match with Caro Wozniacki, but it simply made for more profit as the Czech won in straight sets. And Sabine Lisicki also won in Memphis to make a nice 2.50 double on the day.
Kvitova's game has come back in style this week after being missing for at least six months and Wozniacki was unable to cope with the power of the former Wimbledon champion. To be fair, not many can handle the sort of hitting that Petra displayed in Dubai yesterday and for most of this week and surely Sara Errani will be the next to crumble when they meet in the final today at 3pm UK time.
I said yesterday that I wasn’t sure how Roberta Vinci was favourite in the all-Italian semi final and it proved to be business as usual for Errani, who notched her fifth win in a row over her doubles partner - against whom she hasn’t dropped a set since 2010.
But the final is all about Kvitova and if she plays in the same manner that we have seen all week then she’ll win, no question about it. The only question surrounds whether she’ll have an off day and spray more errors than winners.
Errani and Kvitova have played each other on three occasions, all of which were last year and all ended in straight sets wins for the Czech. It’s a classic match-up of the tall power player versus the diminutive tactician, but in these conditions I’ve been amazed all week that Errani’s opponents have allowed her just to roll that feeble serve in without taking it on more.
Petra will take it on for sure and if her radar is functioning somewhere near the level it has been lately then this could be a bit of a mauling for the Italian.
The total games market is set at 19.5 and either that or the Kvitova -5.5 games looks good to me. My slight preference is for the total games and that pays around 2.0
Best bet: Back under 19.5 total games in Kvitova vs Errani at 2.0
