Caroline Wozniacki’s straight sets win over Nadezda Petrova yielded a fifth straight winner for my WTA bets at the 2013 BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday.
The Dane edged a close one against the Russian, who served seven double faults on her way to defeat, on a day where number three seed Aga Radwanska was beaten by Maria Kirilenko. All of the other favourites won with the exception of Mona Barthel, who was taken down in three by Sam Stosur.
Wednesday sees the first two of the WTA quarter-finals taking place and so there’s only Petra Kvitova versus Kirilenko and Sara Errani versus Maria Sharapova to concentrate on today.
First up at 8.30pm UK time is Kvitova and Kirilenko and the value here has to be to side with Kirilenko to take a set at a price of 1.70.
Kirilenko has had to battle to reach this stage and she had a fine win last night over Radwanksa to add to her collection of three setters this week, but in these sort of conditions I wouldn’t be rushing to put too much on Kvitova at around 1.40.
They have met on six occasions, with the score tied at 3-3. Their most recent meeting was in the final of New Haven last summer when Kvitova won 7-6, 7-5, but this will be their first meeting on this sort of slow, bouncy surface.
The Russian has been in great form in 2013 and she’s only lost two completed matches, which were to Serena Williams and Errani. Kirilenko has the kind of conditions today in which she can grab a set against the often error plagued Czech.
Errani is also not without a chance against Sharapova, but this one is all about Maria and how she plays today. Sharapova could easily win this two and one if she’s having a good day, but if she’s not then the Italian could well make her toil in the form that she has been in of late.
The 1.13 about a Sharapova win is too short and if you fancy backing her today it’s probably better to go for the under 19.5 games at 1.78, as if she wins this she’ll surely win it comfortably as she has done in their two previous meetings.
Best Bet: Back Kirilenko +1.5 sets to beat Kvitova at 1.70
