The opening round of the 2013 BNP Paribas Open begins in Indian Wells and there are several competitive-looking matches in the draw today.
There's an intriguing clash between two Italian veterans when Flavia Pennetta continues her comeback after injury against Fran Schiavone and there's a real clash of youth versus experience when 38-year-old Jill Craybas faces fellow American Mallory Burdette, who's 16 years her junior.
But the two matches I like today for betting purposes are for Lesya Tsurenko to beat Ayumi Morita and Timea Babos to beat Johanna Larsson.
Play begins in the California desert at around 7pm UK time this evening and the first match scheduled on Court six is 19 year-old Hungarian Babos facing Larsson.
The young Hungarian had a shocking run at the end of last season and the start of this year, losing 10 matches in a row, but she's been in better form lately and she played well on hard courts in Florianopolis last week before being beaten by eventual champion Monica Niculescu in the quarter-finals.
Larsson has won just two matches since beating Julia Goerges in Auckland in week one of the season and makes the switch from clay to hard after a heavy defeat in round one in Acapulco last week to Karin Knapp.
Babos won both matches against Larsson last year and most factors are in her favour again today.
Tsurenko has qualified in fine style at Indian Wells this week and has an advantage in knowledge of the conditions over Morita who comes here after a fairly typical hit and miss display in Kuala Lumpur where she was thrashed love and two by Karolina Pliskova.
Morita is one of those players who's either on or off and when she's off she can be awful, as she showed by winning just two points on second serve against Pliskova. But when she's good she can be dangerous and she was on great form in Fed Cup recently beating Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in straight sets.
I like the more reliable game of Tsurenko though and in a first meeting between the pair the advantage of having played the conditions and more reliability in what can be a windy venue leads me to back the 1.88 about Tsurenko today.
Back Babos to beat Larsson at 1.58
Back Tsurenko to beat Morita at 1.88
