Week seven of the 2013 WTA Tour began in perfect fashion for this column, with a winning bet that could have scarcely come any easier.
Simona Halep crushed Olga Govortsova 6-1, 6-0 in just 51 minutes, to bring home a nice odds-against winner and get the week off to a fine start.
Halep was impressive from the off and gave up just six points on her own serve, in the most one-sided encounter I've witnessed in recent times. Govortsova was poor and leaked errors, but much of it was down to Halep's high level on the day.
Tuesday's play in Doha sees a very full programme, with a number of matches that are priced up pretty evenly.
The one I will take on today is for Varvara Lepchenko to continue her good form by beating Klara Zakopalova at around 1pm UK time today on Court 4.
The American starred in her country's 3-2 loss to Italy on the clay in Fed Cup last week by beating Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci in their own backyard. The fact that she hasn't had great results prior to that this season makes her available to back today at around 2.0.
In truth, Lepchenko has had some very tough draws on the tour so far in 2013, with Serena Williams first up in Sydney and Ekaterina Makarova in her Brisbane opener, followed by the in-form Elena Vesnina in Melbourne.
Today's draw is another tricky one, but Zakopalova was woeful in her last match against Carla Suarez Navarro in Paris indoors and in typical Zak fashion she's been consistently inconsistent this season.
She lost in her opening match of a tournament 11 times last season, which shows that she's certainly vulnerable early on and her confidence can't be high after the manner of that Paris loss.
The Czech player has lost seven of her last 10 matches against left handers and although the transition from clay to hard may hamper Lepchenko, she played well in Doha last year, reaching the third-round as a qualifier.
Zakopalova was a first round loser last year, both here and in Dubai and all things considered Lepchenko is worth backing today at evens.
Best Bet: Back Lepchenko to beat Zakopalova at 2.0
