Monday was another excellent day of WTA betting, as my best bet cruised home at odds-against in Sydney.
Madison Keys proved to be great value at 2.38 against Jie Zheng, as the teenager secured another impressive win – this time 6-0, 6-4 over the Chinese world number 42.
I can’t see anything that really appeals in the quarter finals in Sydney tonight, other than perhaps taking Roberta Vinci with a start against a possibly jaded Aga Radwanska, so I’m switching my attentions to Hobart.
Klara Zakopalova has seemingly benefited from working with new coach Martin Nekola lately and she looks good to beat Tsvetana Pironkova, but she has had a lot of tennis recently and a bet I prefer is to stick with the resurgence of Kirsten Flipkens tonight.
The Belgian, who has Kim Clijsters as a part time member of her team, showed admirable fight in her last match when coming from 2-5 down in the decider to take down Fran Schiavone and tonight she faces a completely different kind of opponent in Bojana Jovanovski.
The Serbian ball basher will, no doubt, be using her usual tactics of crushing the ball at every opportunity and if her radar is on she can be a dangerous opponent, but it often isn’t, which results in defeat.
Jovanovski benefited from the withdrawal of Hopman Cup star Anabel Medina Garrigues in the last round here when she played 20-year-old Spaniard Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor, who has never been past the first round of any hard court tour level event.
The Serbian took that one, but not easily in the end and she’ll find it tougher today against improving Belgian Flipkens, who should have it in her game to tempt Jovanovski into one huge hit too many often enough to progress to another WTA quarter final.
They have met on two occasions in the past, with the score tied at one win apiece, but on current form I have to side with Flipkens as the likely winner in this match.
Best Bet: Back Flipkens to beat Jovanovski at 1.57
