The final of the BNP Paribas Katowice Open is in play on Sunday at the Spodek Arena between Alizé Cornet and Camila Giorgi.
Cornet showed a fair amount of determination to recover from a first set bagel in her semi final against home favourite Aga Radwanska yesterday, as my first bet of the day eased home.
The Cornet +5.5 games was in serious danger after set one, but the French lady landed the upset from 3-0 down (and break points for 4-0) in the final set to make her second final of the year.
My second wager on Saturday was also a winner when Giorgi blasted her way past Carla Suarez Navarro in straight sets on a good day for WTA betting.

At around 13.45 UK time on Sunday the wild card and number four seed from France will take on the unseeded Italian for the second time in her career in the championship match.
Their first meeting took place on outdoor hard at the Australian Open in medium to quick conditions at Melbourne Park and Cornet prevailed in a three setter, but was aided considerably by Giorgi throwing in 12 double faults. The Italian scored 11 points fewer that day.
Conditions here at the Spodek Arena in Katowice are probably a touch quicker than those in Melbourne and they have certainly assisted the all out attack of Giorgi this week.
The way that Giorgi plays, with no holding back and seemingly no diversion from out and out bludgeoning of the ball inevitably leads to ups and downs in her level and with an opponent like Cornet on the other side of the net this one looks swingy.
Cornet has been bagelled twice this week already and by her very nature she’s a very up and down competitor and allied with Giorgi’s not overly subtle tactics I would definitely favour a three set match here.
Nerves are likely to play a part, with Giorgi into her first final at tour level and her game is so built on decisive hitting that the Italian would really have a problem if she became clouded in her thought processes today due to nerves.
That could be another factor that points to an up and down affair today and Cornet isn’t exactly widely experienced in winning finals either, with three from her seven championship match appearances.
Alizé’s most recent attempt at landing a title didn’t go well, with a comprehensive loss to Venus Williams in Dubai and her personality is such that tension will almost certainly play a part in her game today.
I’d be surprised if either player finished this one in straight sets, so the over 21.5 total games at 1.85 looks the bet.
