It’s official – the Jamaican bobsleigh team will be competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
It may have taken an internet appeal and online donations of $25,000 to help get them to Russia, but Jamaican pair Winston Watts and Marvin Dixon claimed the 30th and final qualifying berth.
Infact, Watts has had to find $165,000 of his own money in the bid to qualify and opened a PayPal account in the hope of making up a $40,000 shortfall. The appeal was helped by donations made using internet crypto-currency Dogecoin.
It’s the first time since 2002 that Jamaica will have a team in the bobsleigh event, an honour that was immortalised in the classic 1993 film Cool Runnings.
So how will Jamaica do?
We’re offering odds on a top 25 and top 10 finish - but they'll need to kiss their lucky egg if they're to stand any chance of a medal at odds of 100.00.
What's more likely is that they'll go the opposite way and crash the bobsleigh like in the movie - that can be backed at 4.00.
Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up... it's Bobsleigh time!
