Mets v Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates are in freefall, but they’ll get a win on Tuesday when they travel to play the New York Mets. Pirates’ pitcher Wandy Rodriguez has been the lone pitching highlight for Pittsburgh as of late. He literally was responsible for half of the team’s wins over the past month (four of eight). He should be able to add to his total at Citi Field where he’s had some success, boasting a 2.76 ERA over two starts at the ballpark. The Mets starter, Collin McHugh, has good overall numbers (3.86 ERA), but they’re skewed by his Major League debut. In that first game he threw seven shutout innings. Since then he’s posted a 6.94 ERA. The Pirates (on at 1.85) are the pick as opposed to the Mets at 1.95.
Braves v Marlins
The nearly unstoppable Kris Medlen will continue his run, leading his Atlanta Braves against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Medlen has been fantastic over his past ten starts, going 8-0 with a 0.76 ERA. In fact, the Braves have won an astounding 21 straight games started by Medlen over the past few years, according to MLB.com. His job will be made easier by the Marlins’ starter Nathan Eovaldi. Though Eovaldi throws hard, it hasn’t translated into success as evidenced by his 4-12 record. His 4.36 ERA is okay, but not good enough to go toe-to-toe with Medlin. Go with the Braves at 1.35 instead of the Marlins at 3.20.
