Twenty-four has become 12 at EuroBasket in Slovenia with the second round tipping off on Wednesday.
And although the four pre-tournament favourites have all survived, the format of carrying points forward has given Greece a major headache as they look to make it through to the quarter-finals.
Only results accrued against other qualifiers still count, which is why the Greeks have dropped to 10.00 to lift the title. They are now in a real battle as they start with a 0-2 record with three games to come against Spain, Slovenia and Croatia.
They probably need two victories to escape but if they play up to their potential, their current odds could prove to be great value, especially with no team – even the only unbeaten side Italy – truly looking unbeatable.
GROUP E – Lithuanians look for upset
First to get under way on Wednesday is Group E, where France are 1.85 favourites to come top, ahead of Serbia who are 2.40. The French have been up and down so far, brilliant and terrible in equal measure and despite their potential, there are question marks over their mental toughness, and the availability of Nicolas Batum.
The same applies to Lithuania, whom France face in their Round 2 opener, with the 2003 champions fortunate to have escaped the opening round. They’ve been playing around with different line-ups and there is still a chance they could come good. Their size might also pose some problems for the French and if they can keep Tony Parker under 20 points, they might be worth a look for the upset at 2.85.
Serbia are 1.12 to beat Belgium but have a look at going over the points line of 142.5 at 1.90. The other game is a little more evenly matched with surprise pair Latvia and Ukraine going head to head. The Ukrainians, coached by Mike Fratello, have been very efficient with a very balanced offense that is going to cause opponents problems. Latvia have been equally potent, varying their chief threats in almost every game. But have a look at Ukraine at 2.15 for the win and maybe even at 15.00 to come first or second in the group.
Best bet: Back Lithuania at 2.85 to beat France.
