France, for all their talent, have yet to truly convince at EuroBasket this summer. Which is why they’re become the ultimate enigma and wildcard in Slovenia, especially after their loss to Lithuania two days ago that showed them at their very worst, held to a meager 62 points.
Hence Les Bleus go into tonight’s Group F clash with Latvia in desperate need of a boost which can give them a push towards a spot in the quarter-finals. Both coach Vincent Collet and his players have been playing up the fact they need to improve their defence. But it’s scoring that remains their key strength, averaging 77.5 points per game and shooting a high percentage in the paint.
But that could make Latvia an almost perfect match-up. One of the surprises of the tournament, they’re putting up 75.0 points per night while sitting in the top five in field goal percentage. Even if the French manage to limit their opportunities, they can still score by taking efficient shots.
They’re 4.00 to pull out an upset with France favoured by -7.5 on the handicap at 1.85. But take the Latvians to put pressure on their slow-starting rivals, especially at half-time when they’re +4 at 1.90.
Tony Parker was largely neutralised by the Lithuanians but that was a rarity. He’s 1.85 to go for over 18 points here, with Davis Bertans good value to score over 8.5 points at 1.85. In a tournament which has thrived on unpredictability, we might see someone unexpected like the 21-year-old forward step up.
Also look out for..
Pooh Jeter to score over 11 points for Ukraine against Serbia at 1.85. But the game to stay under the total points of 144.5 at 1.90.
Take Latvia over France at +4 on the half-time handicap at 1.90
