Charlotte – Minnesota
Momentum is critical as we close in on the end of the NBA’s regular season especially for those on the borderline between surviving the cut and missing out.
And while the Minnesota Timberwolves are clinging onto their chances of sneaking into the Western Conference playoff spots, the Charlotte Bobcats are also trying to shut the door to those below with an eye on their top eight berth in the East.
Winners in four of their last five, the soon-to-be Hornets are turning up the heat on sixth-placed Washington and in sight of only the second post-season run in franchise history.
And although offensively limited, Charlotte are giving up a mere 93.9 points per night at home, seven less than on the road, in what is the main driver of their run of seven straight wins at the TWC Arena.
That will give them a shot at knocking off the Timberwolves on Friday, even though Minnesota puts up an average of 105.9 on their travels while conceding 104.3. Now five-and-half games behind Dallas, they’ll have to fight every step of the way over the next six weeks. Splitting the first four games of their current road trip – all against sub-.500 opponents, has not helped their cause.
However in each of those ties, they’ve forced opponents to beat them with offense. And while Charlotte are good value at 2.00 to take victory, look under 207.5 total points at 1.88 with home advantage helping the Cats’ cause.
Orlando - Washington
The Washington Wizards need urgently to break their own slump and after consecutive defeats, they’re 1.47 to get back to winning ways when they land in Orlando.
The Magic have dropped four in a row and with little to play for, they have the look of a team which is already thinking more about the summer than the present.
But Orlando can put up points, even when out-classed, and it’s worth a punt over the total points line of 211.5 at 3.05.
Best bet: Take Charlotte for the win over Minnesota at 2.00
