Two of the NBA title favourites are straight into action on the opening night of the new season. But will they live up to their billing?
Defending champions Miami begin the defence of their crown at American Airlines Arena against the Boston Celtics in what could yet be a glimpse ahead to next spring’s Eastern Conference Finals.
And although the Heat were just 4-4 in the pre-season, including back-to-back losses to lowly Washington and New Orleans, they will be intent on making an immediate statement when it really matters, especially with Ray Allen’s offseason arrival from Boston dropping a nice grudge element into the mix as well.
The Celtics may be on the slide but they still have talent. Just not enough to shine on South Beach. They’re just 3.50 to steal victory. Instead, take the Heat at 1.90 to win by more than 6.5 points.
There’s even more excitement in Los Angeles after the Lakers summer makeover and although it remains a work in progress, we’ll get our first proper look when they host Dallas. The Mavericks, just 16 months removed from winning the title, have dropped off the charts and will be without Dirk Nowitzki for the opening chunk of the campaign.
That’s why the Lakers are favoured by 8.5 at 1.91 but with Dallas neutralised, stay under the points line of 190.5 at 1.91.
The opening game of the season takes place in Cleveland where the Cavaliers host Washington in a clash of two teams who should improve this year without making any major impact. But although the Wizards are unable to conjure up an early return for the injured John Wall, they did win 99-95 when the sides met earlier this month and are good value at 2.88 in regulation.
Bet of the Day: Take the Lakers to win by over 8.5 points against Dallas at 1.91.
