Atlanta Hawks vs Los Angeles Clippers (BET and STREAM LIVE on Unibet TV from 00.35 GMT)
Having started the NBA season 12-6, the Los Angeles Clippers have done enough to suggest they’re a possible title contender (currently at 12.00), but not quite enough to confirm they’re the finished article. A better indication will surely come over the next two weeks as LA’s current top dogs begin a seven-game road swing that – although relatively easy on paper – will test their ability to grind out results.
It starts on Wednesday at the Atlanta Hawks, who are mired in a run of five losses in six games. While the Clippers remain a distinctly average defensive team, their challenge is to become more consistent offensively during the trip. They average 111.2 points in LA but 100.5 on their travels but if that differential can be closed, Doc Rivers’ team will be a tough proposition for anybody.
The Hawks’ own offense, averaging 98.7 on the season, has stagnated during their recent slump, although the combination of Al Horford and Paul Millsap could at least make life awkward for Blake Griffin and throw more of a scoring load onto Chris Paul. But the Clips are a solid 4-4 on the road, and at -3.5 on the handicap, they’re worth a punt in a game they could easily push over the total points line of 202.5, available at 1.90.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs San Antonio Spurs
After a promising start, the Minnesota Timberwolves have slid back with just three wins out of ten but they’ll hope for better fortune when they head to Mexico City tonight to meet the San Antonio Spurs in one of the NBA’s two contests this season on foreign soil.
The Timberwolves have been undone by several second-half slumps which might make the odds of 2.33 for them to lead at half-time an attractive look. But with their defence falling apart, all signs point to the Spurs who are -4.5 on the handicap. However one potential quirk is the altitude which might sap a little energy and keep the scoring lower than the line of 202.5.
Best bet: Take the LA Clippers on the handicap over the Hawks at 1.90.
