To rest or not to rest? That is the question posed of the NBA’s leading stars as the play-offs beckon.
The Miami Heat showed their priorities on Saturday when LeBron James and Chris Bosh were left on the bench as the Washington Wizards grabbed a shock victory in South Florida. And it came at an additional cost with Dwyane Wade dislocating a finger and playing less than three minutes.
That’s likely to leave the Heat erring on the side of caution when the Houston Rockets come to town on Sunday, especially with minimal chance now of overhauling Chicago for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
Houston have no such luxury. The Rockets sit one game back from Utah in the hotly contested battle to secure the last available post-season berth in the West, that also features Phoenix. Houston picked up a first win in seven games on Saturday with a 99-96 defeat of Golden State to grab a lifeline for their hopes.
Their last remaining game is against lowly New Orleans but this is a must-win so it’s worth a punt on Kevin McHale’s men at odds of 1.91.
Coming off their worst defeat of the season, the Los Angeles Lakers will bid to bounce back and all but seal homecourt advantage in the first round of the play-offs when they host Oklahoma City. No easy task, when the Thunder are pursing San Antonio for the West’s top seed.
With four wins out of five, and two previous victories over the Lakers this season, take OKC to win at –1 at odds of 1.91 in a high-scoring shoot-out.
