San Antonio have the Utah Jazz right where they want them: on the verge of a speedy exit from the NBA play-offs. On Monday night, the Spurs will bid to close the door in their face and complete a 4-0 sweep of their first round series.
Any hope the Jazz had of pursuing an upset surely died in their 102-90 loss on Saturday in Salt Lake City. San Antonio’s supreme efficiency has earned them the status of second favourites to win the title and their odds might drop a little further if they get the benefit of extra rest and recuperation by booking their Western Conference semi-final berth at the earliest opportunity.
Jazz forward Paul Millsap has struggled in this series, as has Spurs sparkplug Manu Ginobili. But even at +8.0 on the handicap, it’s still San Antonio who should close out at 1.91. The best punt is to go over 198.5 total points.
The Spurs will be delighted if the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies go to seven games before arriving fatigued in San Antonio. The Clips, 2-1 ahead in their series, host Game 4 on Monday after escaping with an 87-86 win on Saturday.
It was a chance missed for the Grizzlies who went scoreless for seven minutes in the fourth quarter, another inexplicable lapse for a team who should really have won all three games so far. They’re 2.02 to even up the series in regulation. If they can, expect this game to go over the line of 182.5 total points.
Bet of the Day: Take San Antonio to sweep Utah on the handicap at 1.91.
