The reigning NBA champions take on the team with the best record in the league to date as the Miami Heat welcome the San Antonio Spurs to South Beach. And with both in imperious form, it is likely to be a knuckle-ride to see who comes out on top.
Miami is a perfect 6-0 this season at American Airlines Arena and won their fourth consecutive game by rallying to see off Cleveland 110-108 on Saturday. LeBron James has been unstoppable but he’s also had ample help from Chris Bosh and Ray Allen on a team averaging 104.8 points per game while conceding 100.3.
Last season, the Spurs were routed twice in Miami but they arrive on a league-best eight game streak on the road, a major factor in their 12-2 start to the season.
They’re allowing just 95.1 points per night within a tried and tested system which contrasts with the Heat’s ever-changing rotation. Miami are favoured by 5.5 point for victory at 1.91 but their guest could give the champs some problems.
The Heat are 7-1 when scoring over 100 points while San Antonio are 10-1 so expect a high scoring clash – with taking over the line of 205.5 total points at 2.05 a tempting bet.
Thursday’s other tie sees the surprising Golden State Warriors host the surging Denver Nuggets in a battle of two teams with similar records. The 8-6 Warriors are 4-2 at home this season and an impressive 7-3 against rivals with .500 records or better.
Denver comes in with four wins from their last five but they’ve struggled against higher ranked opponents. Their best shot of winning is to keep Golden State to under 100 points and while the Nuggets are favoured by -1.5 on the handicap, the Warriors are very capable of fighting past.
Bet of the Day: Go over 205.5 total points in San Antonio-Miami at 2.05.
