Brooklyn Nets will come up against the player they tried to sign this summer when they head to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers and former transfer target Dwight Howard.
The Nets spent a long time trying to get Howard in a trade, but it came to nothing and the Lakers stepped in, prising Howard away from the Orlando Magic during the close season. Perhaps not getting Howard could be the best thing Brooklyn did, though, as instead they signed Joe Johnson, while re-signing Brook Lopez and Deron Williams, and it's now paying dividends with the Nets off to a 6-2 start.
As for the Lakers, tonight is their first opportunity to post a winning record since opening night and despite Brooklyn's strong start to the season, Los Angeles are heavy favourites to get the win.
You can get 1.35 for the Lakers to win in regulation, while a regulation win for the Nets is offered at 3.55. If you want to back the Lakers and after a better price, consider taking them with a -6.5 handicap at 1.91.
Over on the East Coast, New York Knicks take on New Orleans Hornets and a couple of weeks ago this would have been a closer game. The Hornets, with rookie star Anthony Davis, came flying out of the gate but since then have struggled and come into this game on the back of a three-game losing streak.
With the Knicks unbeaten at home and the Hornets having just one win on the road, it points to a Knicks win, available at 1.40, or 1.44 if in regulation.
Finally, Philadelphia 76ers host the Toronto Raptors and while there's a chance of a road win in every game tonight, perhaps it will be in Philadelphia where it occurs.
The Sixers have split their six home games to date and while you would still expect Philadelphia to win (1.48 in regulation), Toronto are finally working out how to win, having picked up two victories in their last three games, and are offered at 2.95 for a regulation win.
Bet of the day: Take Toronto with +5.5 handicap over Philadelphia at 1.91.
