The NBA’s regular season comes to a close tonight. Some teams will bid farewell for the summer. Others have title dreams on their minds.
That could make for a few intriguing contests where prior form counts for very little. With the top seed in the Western Conference in their pockets, the San Antonio Spurs will field a less than full roster when they travel to the vacation-bound Golden State Warriors on Thursday.
It’s been an awkward rookie coaching season in the Bay Area for Mark Jackson, who came in preaching defence and ended up presiding over a squad ranked 28th in points allowed. A loss for his team could, in fact, be of benefit if it helps them stay in the Draft Lottery. But in spite of the less than stellar personnel, this'll be a high scoring game. Back the overs at 1.85.
It’s a similar story elsewhere where lowly Washington face Miami and Cleveland meet Chicago. Mid-season, these would be no-brainers wins for the powerhouses of the East. Tonight, the underdogs may have their (meaningless) day.
The one game of real consequence is in Atlanta where Dallas will have one final tune-up up for the defence of their championship crown. The Hawks ground out a win over the Clippers on Tuesday while the Mavericks have had five days rest since a loss at Chicago. But for Atlanta there is the incentive of claiming homecourt with a victory so back them at 1.44.
There’s also a critical game in Spain in the race for the ACB title when leaders FC Barcelona head to third-placed Caja Laboral Baskonia in a battle of the Liga Endesa’s two best defences. Caja Laboral, with injury concerns, are a generous 5.05 to win in regulation. Better though to go under the total of 141.5 at 1.90.
Bet of the Day: Take Atlanta over Dallas
